Pastel on stiff board Approximately 13 x 10 inches. framed, overall size approximately 18 x 15 inches. Brother Cornelius of St. Mary's College was the steadfast promoter of the painting of Scottish born, San Francisco and Berkeley artist, William Keith. He founded the Keith Art Association, campaigned for the acquisition of Keith's paintings and initiated and helped build the Keith Gallery. This pastel painting depicts the full face, head and shoulders of a middle-aged man of sympathetic expression, wearing glasses, dressed in a black jacket with white collar. On the back of the painting is written in ink: "Self-portrait of Brother Cornelius" Christmas gift to George Demont Otis at whose studio in Kentfield he stayed while visiting Mazin, in early 1950's. Gift to Georg Epidendio by Mrs. Otis on the day she moved from the studio to a relative's home in East Bay". Bookseller Inventory # 16601
