Roy Trewin Porte was born in 1876 in New Brunswick, Canada. At the age of five, his widowed mother relocated them to Casselton, North Dakota. With their belongings was a small hand press. Small printing jobs graduated to work at a newspaper shop by the time Porte reached the age of age fourteen. At the age of eighteen Porte establishedThe Herald which he ran from 1894-1897. Porte later settled in Fargo where he opened up a commercial printing shop. In addition to his knowledge about the printing business, he became an authority on different printing cultures and histories.His experience led to his appointment as secretary and cost expert of the Commercial Printers organization in Cincinnati, Ohio. In July 1916, was appointed the position of secretary of the Ben Franklin Club in Salt Lake City. His success there led to the establishing of the Porte Publishing Companyin 1924. Roy Porte passed away on July 21, 1936, after a long illness. He was company president, honorary member of the Utah Press association, and author of dozens of books, pamphlets, articles, and lectures. He was also a collector of rare books and printing samples from various countries. After his death, the Porte Publishing Company continued for another two decades. Seller Inventory # 14833
