Title: Le Porche du Mystere de la Deuxieme Vertu.
Publisher: Editions Gallimard, Paris, France
Publication Date: 1929
Very Good- in Wraps: shows indications of careful use: slight spine lean; a short split in the wrapper cover at the top of the front hinge has been carefully tape-repaired; mild rubbing and faint soiling to wrapper covers, which also show a bit of foxing at the top of the front panel; most pages uncut and are heavily tanned, due to aging; the title page has been carelessly torn at the top, as a former owner has tried to open the page without cutting the top edge from the previous page; there is a tiny nick at the bottom of the front hinge; binding secure; text clean. Despite a number of flaws, remains clean, sturdy, and presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 12mo. 234pp. Rag-Edge Papers. Paperback. Charles Pierre Péguy (1873 – 1914) was a noted French poet, essayist, and editor born in Orléans. His two main philosophies were socialism and nationalism, but by 1908 at the latest, after years of uneasy agnosticism, he had become a devout but non-practicing Roman Catholic. From that time, Catholicism strongly influenced his works. "Le Porche" was his first book of poems, originally published in 1912. Bookseller Inventory # 42718
