Paperback. A flicker of gaslight in Edwardian London casts long shadows-shadows where secrets breed and danger waits in silence. Beneath the city's elegant veneer, a web of international conspiracy tightens, threatening not only the fate of nations but the very soul of a world teetering on the brink of the unknown. In these turbulent years before the First World War, a seemingly civilised society is shaken by whispers of an anarchist organisation, their motives shrouded in mystery and suspense. At the heart of this labyrinth stands Edward Leithen, a barrister whose intellect and resolve are tested as he is drawn ever deeper into a plot that could reshape history. This masterful thriller novel pulses with political intrigue and the relentless tension of a classic literature gem. The London setting is more than a backdrop; it is a living, breathing character, its fog-laden streets and grand institutions echoing with the anxieties of an era. As the story unfolds, readers are swept into a world where every conversation crackles with hidden meaning and every shadow may conceal a threat. The narrative's swift pace and keen psychological insight mark it as a cornerstone of historical fiction, resonating with today's fascination for stories that illuminate the origins of modern anxieties. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions. It has been restored for today's and future generations. This edition is not just a reprint - it's a collector's item and a cultural treasure. Whether you are a devotee of John Buchan works, a seeker of early 20th century adventure, or a collector of significant literary milestones, this tale of espionage and uncertainty remains as compelling now as when it first gripped readers. This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.…
