The analysis category »Disability«, which has been barely noticed by contemporary history, opens up a new view of complex, social and cultural contexts in the Federal Republic of Germany. Under the guiding question of how the category "disability" is constituted in scientific and political discourses, Elsbeth Bösl examines the German disability policy. Historical analysis shows that until the mid-1970s, this policy was primarily directed at the functional normalization of people with disabilities as well as the production of employability and productivity.
