Paperback. Evelyn "Evie" Marsh has spent six years turning her grandmother's recipes into the beating heart of Oakhaven's favorite bakery. But when a corrupt county inspector demands a bribe to pass her annual permit and turns up dead on her kitchen floor the very next morning, Evie's beloved shop becomes a crime scene, and she becomes the prime suspect. With her business quarantined, her reputation in tatters, and a detective who isn't quite convinced of her innocence, Evie has no choice but to investigate herself. Armed with nothing but her sharp instincts, her sharper-tongued best friend, and a droopy-eared Bassett Hound with an uncanny nose for trouble, she sets out to clear her name before the whole town writes her off for good.Between a rival baker suddenly flush with cash, a widow with a suspiciously well-timed insurance policy, and a blackmailed dairy farmer with a motive of his own, Evie discovers that the inspector had more enemies than friends and that someone in Oakhaven was willing to kill to keep their secrets buried.Warm, witty, and entirely free of graphic violence or profanity, Poison in the Pastry Shop is a cozy culinary mystery for readers who like their murder solved with equal parts wit, warmth, and a fresh batch of almond croissants.Perfect for fans of small-town amateur sleuths, loyal canine sidekicks, and bakeries with more secrets than sugar.A standalone mystery, no series commitment required, though you may just find yourself craving a return trip to Oakhaven.
