Hardcover. Bound in red leather, with gold lettering on the spine. Raised cords with black bands. Some minor rubbing to cords and crown/foot of spine, as well as hinge, corners. Blindstamped borders and ruling on the boards. Gilt page edges. Rolled gold decorations on turnover leather at inside boards. Marbled endpapers. Frontispiece engraving of Scott along with a few plates. Pages have red borders. No date on the title page or copyright page. Gift inscription on front blank dated 1884. 629 pages. Measures 5.25 x 7.25 inches. This copy has a beautiful, original fore-edge painting, showing a pastoral scene with lake, meadow, great house, mountain backdrop. Pencil note on rear endpaper identifies it as Abbotsford, Scott's home between Galashiels and Tweedbank. Please email with questions or to request more photos.
