About this Item
In fair condition. Overall dull and lightly soiled. Gilt finishing rubbed and tarnished. Light cracking at hinges with minor fraying of cloth. Binding shaken with cracked front gutter. Bookplate on pastedown. Previous ownership throughout end papers. Interior lightly toned with scattered foxing. All edges gilt. Please see photos. Thomas Moore (1779-1852), poet, was born in Dublin on 28 May 1779. He attended Trinity College, Dublin, and was admitted to the Inner Temple in 1799. He became admiralty registrar at Bermuda in 1803. Moore won a reputation as the national lyricist of Ireland through his Irish melodies, published between 1807 and 1834 with music by Sir John Stevenson. His other works include Poetical works of the late Thomas Little (1801) and Lalla Rookh (1817). He died at Sloperton Cottage, near Calne, Wiltshire, on 25 February 1852.
