Celtic (deep) Green cloth covers with only the very lightest of rubbing. Gilt outline with small centered ornament to front board. Gilt "HERBERT'S POETICAL WORKS" title to spine, with small "The Aldiine Edition" above it, and gilt decorated spine head and tail borders. Edges unrubbed and corners unbumped. Clean unfoxed unmarked pages, with only a bit of foxing to the second and third rear endpapers. Attractive typography with headpieces to sections and ornamental initial letters for each poem. Dark brown endpapers in very good shape. Moderate dusting to top page edges, with fore and bottom pages edges very clean. Previous owner's book label to center of front paste-down with a few penciled marks. Tiny Glasgow bookseller sticker to upper left corner of front paste-down. Tissue guarded portrait frontispiece of author from 1674 engraving. A well-preserved and really pleasant 19th century edition of George Herbert's poems. About 4.4 x 6.8 in (11.3 x 17.4 cm).
