Content Description. The Poetical Works of Elizabeth Barrett Browning: Complete Edition brings together the poetry of one of the most important and widely read poets of the Victorian era. This substantial single-volume collection includes Browning's major works, including Aurora Leigh, Sonnets from the Portuguese, The Seraphim, A Drama of Exile, and numerous shorter poems. Published in New York by Thomas Y. Crowell & Company, this attractive undated edition appears to date from the late nineteenth century. It features a portrait frontispiece of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, a decorative red-and-black title page, double-column text, gilt top edge, and an attractive red cloth binding decorated in black and gilt. The volume also preserves Browning's original prefatory material, including her 1856 “Advertisement” and dedication to her father. An appealing antique collected edition of Browning's poetry, suitable for a collector of Victorian literature, decorative bindings, or nineteenth-century books. Condition Description. Very Good. Original red cloth hardcover with black decorative border and corner ornaments, central gilt device to front board, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, and gilt top edge. Moderate age-related wear to exterior, including rubbing and fraying at spine ends and corners, with light rubbing and scattered small marks to boards. Binding remains sound and pages are firmly held. Interior is generally clean and well preserved, with occasional age-related spotting/foxing, primarily to preliminary pages. Portrait frontispiece and decorative title page remain attractive. Previous penciled price notation to front free endpaper. No dust jacket. Please see photographs for details of condition.…
