The poetry of Alexander Pope is presented in a mid-19th century American edition. Includes author's preface, plus Dr. Johnson's "Life of Pope." Dr. [William] Warburton has supplied endnotes. Pope's "Essay on Criticism," "Imitations of Horace," "An Essay on Man," "The Dunciad" and many additional writings are included. Mr. Pope (1688-1744) was an English poet, also admired for his translations of works by Homer into English. --- In half leather covers over marbled boards, marbled endpapers and all textblock edges marbled. With two steel engraved illustrations at front of book. --- An about-Good copy, with chafing and rubbing to leather, 3-inch tear to front joint, rubbing to paper covers and conspicuous dampstaining to corners of first few leaves.
