With Boston in the throes of a sweltering summer, and an outbreak of small pox plunging the city into panic, Ethan Kaille, thieftaker and conjurer, seeks to scratch out a living and keep safe those he loves. But British soldiers patrol the lanes, and Sephira Pryce, his beautiful, dangerous rival in thieftaking, dogs his every move. Now the city is beset by a series of grave desecrations; someone has disturbed the souls of Boston's dead for ill purpose. More, these are not simple robberies, but are the work of a powerful conjurer, a vengeful, twisted enemy from Ethan's past, who is mutilating corpses, gathering an army of wraiths, and directing his spells and scheming at Ethan himself.More in need of his conjuring talents than ever before, Ethan finds himself unable to cast, or fight, or defend himself. With every new death in a city at the mercy of a mortal disease, Ethan's foe grows more powerful and adds to his legion of ghosts. And if Ethan cannot find a way to defeat him, every man and woman in Boston will be at the villain's mercy.Brilliant characters in a brilliant book.-The Huffington PostJackson is an increasingly reliable tour guide to America's colonial past.-Publisher's Weekly on A Plunder of SoulsThe author hits it out of the park with the brilliant A Plunder of Souls, for both its premise and its execution. This terrific series should appeal to readers of urban fantasy, traditional fantasy, and those historical fiction fans who do not mind a bit of the speculative thrown in. 5 stars out of 5.-Bitten by Books.…

- Book 3 of 4: The Thieftaker Chronicles
Boston, 1769: Ethan Kaille, a Boston thieftaker who uses his conjuring to catch criminals, has snared villains and defeated magic that would have daunted a lesser man. What starts out as a mysterious phenomenon that has local ministers confused becomes something far more serious.
A ruthless, extremely powerful conjurer seeks to wake the souls of the dead to wreak a terrible revenge on all who oppose him. Kaille's minister friends have been helpless to stop crimes against their church. Graves have been desecrated in a bizarre, ritualistic way. Equally disturbing are reports of recently deceased citizens of Boston reappearing as grotesquely disfigured shades, seemingly having been disturbed from their eternal rest, and now frightening those who had been nearest to them in life. But most personally troubling to Kaille is a terrible waning of his ability to conjure. He knows all these are related...but how?
When Ethan discovers the source of this trouble, he realizes that his conjure powers and those of his friends will not be enough to stop a madman from becoming all-powerful. But somehow, using his wits, his powers, and every other resource he can muster, Ethan must thwart the monster's terrible plan and restore the restless souls of the dead to the peace of the grave. Let the battle for souls begin in Plunder of Souls, the third, stand-alone novel in Jackson's acclaimed Thieftaker series.
