Print on Demand. Taking place shortly after the signing of the Treaty of Amiens, this book presents the previously unpublished account of a plot to assassinate Napoleon Bonaparte that was hatched by disgruntled soldiers within the French army. Set against the backdrop of Napoleon's efforts to reconcile France with the church, and stabilize the newly-proclaimed Consulate, the author skillfully weaves together a narrative that incorporates eyewitness accounts, original correspondence, and meticulous research. The book examines the complex motivations of the conspirators, their use of coded messages and secret meetings to plan the assassination, and the dramatic events leading up to its discovery. It also explores the political and social tensions within the army, the challenges faced by Bonaparte in maintaining control, and the broader implications of the plot for the future of France. Ultimately, this book is a captivating blend of history and intrigue that sheds new light on a pivotal moment in French history, the rise of Napoleon, and the enduring legacy of the Consulate. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Biography and Autobiography
The work here offered to the English reader appeared first in the Revue des Deuce Mondes (october 15 - December 1, 1902) and has since been 'published as a volume. It forms the first of a series of studies promised by M. Augustin-thierry, under the general title of Conspirateurs et Gens de Police.
The history of the Rennes Conspiracy is here brought from the obscurity of police archives into the full light of day, and presented with the lively narrative style of which M. Thierry is a master. Owing to the bushing-up of its details, the reasons for which are sufficiently set forth in the Epilogue of the present work, the plot has been passed over by most writers with a brief mention, while some (see Appendix as to Marbot) have treated it as a theme for variations.
