Paperback. Elliott Cross fixes stories for a living. He takes other people's catastrophes and rewrites the narrative until the police look elsewhere, the cameras turn away, and the public forgets. He is not a lawyer. He is not a detective. He is a plot doctor, and he charges by the lie. When his estranged brother Julian is found dead in a bathtub, Elliott is pulled into a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of power. Julian was writing a novel based on a true crime investigation that powerful men will kill to bury. And now the killers are coming for Elliott. With only forty-eight hours to uncover the truth, he must follow a trail of cryptic clues left by his dead brother, a manuscript that names names, and a woman who holds the key to everything. But the deeper Elliott digs, the more he realizes the story is not what it seems. The protagonist of Julian's novel is based on a real person, a woman who has been living under an assumed identity for years. And she has secrets of her own, secrets that could destroy Elliott's family and everything he thought he knew. The truth is a weapon, and everyone is willing to die for it.In this dark, twist-filled thriller that readers are calling "unputdownable," Marcus Aldene Cole weaves a tale of betrayal, redemption, and the dangerous power of the written word.
