About this Item
A large sheet, in acid free Mylar envelope. It is half in Hebrew, half in Slovak, dated 30 August 1948, with a photo of the bombed synagogue in Dunajka Streda. The writer, Rabbi Josef Steiner appeals for a donation from fellow Jews to help repair the synagogue, built by Rabbi Juda Aszadom. The synagogue was not repaired and was eventually torn down. Of the few Jewish inhabitants who survived the death camps a handful returned to the town. The rest of the survivors settled in Israel and elsewhere. The few remaining Jews who did return to live in Serdahely, as it was called by Jews, intermarried local Christians. "Zid. Nab. Obec. Dunajska Stread. Spoluveriaci!
