Add to basketHaving been constructed by William the Conqueror shortly after his successful invasion of 1066 and used as a royal residence since Henry I, Windsor Castle is the longest-occupied palace in Europe. Like many such historical sites, it's had high points and low periods. The castle started to become a tourist attraction in the early 18th century, although it had fallen into disrepair. When King George III took the throne in 1760, the year this plan is dated, he had plans to make the castle his full-time residence. An outline of the vast complex is shown here, engraved by R. Benning. Individual rooms and buildings are labeled or assigned a letter which corresponding to the key along the top and bottom of the sheet. Sheet Height (in) 9 Condition B Goodreasing along 3 vertical fold lines and a small tear along the centerfold near the top of the sheet, repaired with archival tape. The sheet is mounted to an old bookplate, but remains in good condition.
