This delightful collection of short stories offers a vivid glimpse into the Indian Army of the early 1980s, seen through the eyes of two freshly commissioned medical officers. Drawn from the author’s first three years in uniform, the tales are infused with humour, warmth, and unflinching realism, capturing the camaraderie, trials, and a deep sense of duty that defines military life. Set in a proud, post-1971 India, the book paints a rich picture of remote field postings, limited resources, and quiet moments of grace amid adversity—all told with a light touch and heartfelt sincerity. It stands as a tribute to the Army Medical Corps and the resilient men and women who serve with compassion and courage.

Lt Gen. Umesh Kumar Sharma, AVSM (Retd), former President’s Honorary Surgeon and the ex-officiating Director General, Medical Services (Army), is currently active in promoting deceased donor renal transplantation and regularly writes and lectures in New Delhi.
