About the Author: The grandson and great, great grandson of architects, Gil Schafer is consistently recognized as one of the world's experts on contemporary classical architecture. A graduate of the Yale School of Architecture and a recipient of the H.I. Feldman Prize, Schafer started his own firm in 2002. From 1999 to 2006 Gil served as President and then Chairman of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America; he is currently on its Board of Directors. His work has been featured in many publications including Departures, Domino, the International Herald Tribune, Elle Décor, the New York Times, House & Garden, New Old House, Period Homes, and Town & Country. Sam White's Nice House (Monacelli) and Michael S Smith Houses. He was recently awarded one of the 2010 Veranda Art of Design Architecture Award for "industry trailblazers whose work is both innovative and timeless." He is the author of The Great American House.
