The Binding
Bottega dei Gozzi, a bindery which has been preserving the craft since 1902 ? the book will therefore be bound completely by hand. Each individual phase requires the knowledge and skills of the most traditional bookbinding, from the stitching to the creation of the multi-colored headband, from the spine to the inlay work, using only materials of the highest quality to ensure the most precise workmanship.
The Printer
Archivio Tipografico is one of the best artisanal printshop in Italy, a place where time seems suspended and where typesetting with movable type is still part of their everyday practice. They run nine letterpress printing presses, both platen and flatbed, recovered and fully restored from disused printing houses, dating from the early 20th century to 1965.
Like us, they constantly aims to preserve the tradition, quality, techniques and crafts of the art of typography.
The Adventures of Pinocchio will be printed in letterpress on a Heidelberg OHZ (1952), an impressive 5-ton flatbet cylinder press machine known as The "Ferrari" of Archivio Tipografico.
The Translation
The Carlo Collodi National Foundation authorized us to use his Italian and the English version, considered the best and most reliable translations because of the Foundation?s tutelary work: a long process of comparing different editions, some of which were corrected directly by Carlo Collodi himself during his lifetime.
