Item description from seller

" Edited with Notes Original and Selected by Rev. C.H.H. Wright". Not dated - thought to be mid 1800s. In very large and heavy brown leather boards, with gilt decorated ruled edges; decorated spine with four raised horizontal bands, black title field with gilt titles . The leather is in good condition - "The Clevedon Community Bookshop Co-operative Bindery Team" have fed the leather with balm. The Team also reinforced the hinges with plackets and repaired and painted small holes. The covers are very tight and straight, quite clean and a little shelf-cocked. Clean brown, blue, red and white marble effect end papers with black leather book plate with gilt titles on front paste down; the rear free end paper has worn fore edge. Very age-toned cut edges. The text bock is printed in two columns and with b/w and bright colour engravings and illustrations by Horace Castelli and G. Bartsch. The pages are tightly bound and slightly tanned, especially around the edges, some grubby marks on prelims and here and there throughout. The Index pages have worn edges and the last page has a deep vertical crease. The Bindery Team have tipped in the first few pages. Overall good condition. No jacket. Very heavy. Please contact us for cost of postage if shipping outside the UK.…

Store description

Clevedon Community Bookshop, co-operatively owned, opened on 31 December 2011 and now has a general stock of approximately 20,000 books. Our Bookshop is in Copse Road in Clevedon and is open every day of the week except Mondays, from 10.30am to 4.30pm. The Bookshop Co-operative comprises nearly 650 members from around the world and was set up to stop the only second-hand bookshop in our town from closing. The benefit of being a member/shareholder is only social: no-one benefits financially. All profits are used to improve the bookshop and its stock, and, through events, to contribute to the literacy and literary profile of our town. If you would like you join the Co-operative and co-own the Bookshop with us, please email us.…
