Reviews for My Piece of Sky
“Fascinating, exciting, anxiety provoking and very, very funny…perfectly describes the multi-faceted way trauma affects people.” Consultant Psychiatrist
“My heart was in my mouth as Joanne quite literally fell to earth; a brave and loving memoir that is testimony to her grit as a woman, wife, mother and leader. I couldn’t put this book down and know that I will carry it with me.” PTSD survivor, extreme sports enthusiast, and mother
“My Piece of Sky is a story of hope. Joanne’s story is an inspiration to anyone who has been through extreme trauma or a near-death experience. For survivors and family members looking for help and support after a traumatic event, the author really shows that emotional and physical scars can be healed through love, determination, hard work, perseverance, and a positive outlook. This book is written in such an intimate way; openly, clearly and honestly. Joanne showcases how the wisdom gained during a near-death experience can be life-enhancing and have hugely positive effects in one’s life in the long-term. A must-read for anyone looking for hope in times of need and looking to overcome a difficult or emotional challenge in life. A must read.” Miriam Stevenson
About the Book:
Ground rush is scary when green swirling grass comes up to grab you as you fall from 6,500 feet at over 100 mph. You are plummeting towards your fate, not knowing what that will be. Will it be certain death, or will you survive to tell the tale? Unbelievably Joanne survived.
This book captures the full story 25 years on; it is especially for those who have experienced a traumatic event and those who treat them.
“…I began to write down feelings and thoughts that were coming to me, the words pouring out onto the page in seconds, as fast as I had fallen. Not the calming and beautiful feelings I describe when explaining my near-death experience, the part I prefer to talk about and cling onto as the good part of the otherwise horrific accident, but the full-blown, inescapable raw terror I felt. The part I didn’t know was still there, inside, in the deepest recesses of my mind…”
Joanne’s message is one of hope and encouragement for others to dig deep and find all the resilience and strength they have within to recover from adversity and live the best life possible.
About the Author:
Joanne McConville is a healthcare professional from a nursing background, with over 30 years of experience in the UK’s National Health Service, Private Sector and Civil Service. Her focus on coaching and developing excellent leadership practice led her to found Clarity Change, a consultancy supporting businesses to achieve this.
However, it was a passion for skydiving born out of a desire to help her son that led to a skydiving accident over 25 years ago that many thought she wouldn’t, couldn’t or even shouldn’t survive.
Married to her skydiving instructor, Joe, for the past 25 years they have five children, grandchildren and a home together close to the beautiful Lough Neagh in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
By telling her inspirational personal story, combined with work and life experiences, Joanne provides inspirational talks, seminars and development programmes on topics such as; resilience, adaptability, trauma, learning from near-death experiences, leadership and her take on how to thrive from difficult times and become the best person you can be, in all areas of your life.
Joanne is registered with professional bodies, including the NMC (Nursing, Midwifery Council) and the ACCPH, (Accredited Counsellors, Coaches Psychotherapists and Hypnotherapists).
