The pen-and-ink etchings, contributed by a na tive artist, are not the least valuable part of the book. They are faithful representations of the Northern Chinese. The contour of the figures differs much from the prevailing type of the South, and affords a pleasing variety to the hackneyed form to Which we have been accustomed.
