When Pico meets Rex the rooster in the forest clearing, he's excited to make a new friend. But Rex's response is unexpected and hurtful. With no clear reason why, Pico is left feeling confused, sad, and unsure of himself.

As Pico processes his feelings, he turns to his wise friend Talia the turtle, who gently helps him understand an important truth: not everyone will like you-and that's okay.

Through this powerful social-emotional learning (SEL) story, children learn how to:

Build confidence and self-esteem
Navigate friendship challenges and social rejection
Respond to unkind behavior calmly and kindly
Develop emotional resilience and self-worth
Choose friends who treat them with respect

Instead of changing who he is to be accepted, Pico learns to stay true to himself, set healthy boundaries, and recognize the value of the friendships he already has.

Perfect for children ages 6-8, this beautifully illustrated picture book is ideal for:

Classroom read-alouds
Counseling and social skills groups
Parent-child conversations about feelings
Teaching kindness, respect, and empathy
Helping children cope with bullying or exclusion

Pico and the Rude Rooster is a meaningful addition to any child's library and a valuable resource for parents, teachers, and counselors looking to support emotional development and healthy relationships.

Because every child deserves to know:

You don't need everyone to like you to belong.

You can be kind.

You can be confident.

And you can always be yourself.
