In this comprehensive work, portraitist and teacher Robin Gillanders looks at all kinds of portraiture in both colour and black and white. He discusses how to set up a shot, how to pose the sitter, composing the photograph, lighting and, ultimately, how to give portraits real meaning.
About the Author: Robin Gillanders is a lecturer in Photography, Film and Imaging at the School of Design and Media Arts at Napier University. He specialises in portrait photography and has undertaken a number of high profile commissions, not least the opening of the Scottish Parliament in 1999. He has contributed work to exhibitions at the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the National Gallery, London amongst many others. One of his lectures on photographic portraiture was recently published by the Scottish Society for the History of Photography. He lives in Edinburgh, Scotland.
