Oblong folio measuring 12.25" x 10.25". String tied, black flexible leather boards. Contains 412 gelatin silver black and white or sepia toned photographs measuring between 3" x 2" and 10" x 5" with some captions. A few chips on the pages with some detached but present, near fine. A woman's photo album of her experiences and travel as a nurse in World War I and later camping pictures with friends 1910s through the mid-1920s. The war photographs are from Washington D.C. and France depicting actual battles on the war front with captions reading, "American attacking at Cantigny lead by French tank". The woman was a nurse and can be seen in her uniform with other colleagues. She also takes several pictures of other female service members, one of which has all the women lined up wearing Navy uniforms with long pants and hats while other show the more traditional long skirt and jacket outfit seen on most female service members in World War I. Also featured are pictures of nurses, doctors, and hospitalized patients being examined at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington D.C. The hospital's location allowed for the woman to take several photographs of welfare boats and navy ships coming into the hospital. While the woman was stationed in France, there are photos of the weapons used during such as cannons being moved by soldiers or automobiles. Some of the photos show the destruction of the war with fallen houses, memorials for dead service members, and wounded patients. Alongside the more morose photographs are pictures of the soldiers grouped together smiling or about their daily activates. One particularly nice photograph is of a bird's eye shot of all the soldiers posed outside their hotel. The later photographs show the woman camping with a group of other women out in the woods making their own tents and meals. There are captions on the photographs placing the camping trip in several forests and lakes in California like Canyon Park, Dobbins Creek, Patricks Point, Eel River, and more. Many of the photographs feature one of the women posed in the shot or are landscape photographs of the trails, rivers, and camp sites the family visited. An extensive collection of World War I photographs from a nurse stationed in France. …
