Item description from seller

Oblong folio measuring 15"x 11". String tied, black cloth over stiff paper boards. Contains 338 gelatin silver black and white photographs measuring between 6"x 3.5" and 3"x 2". Some of the photographs have creases along the edges with edgewear and a light tidemark on the front board, near fine. A group's travel album to various camp grounds and mountain ranges in California in the 1900s. The photographs are well composed with tripods and other camera gear pictured throughout the album, presumably because the person taking the photographs was an amateur photographer. Some of the pictures feature a double exposure as well as very detailed landscape shots. The album features a group of men and women, though often the women are pictured more than the men, wearing traditional camping and hiking clothing from the turn of the century. The fashion of the time can be seen in the women's long skirts and button-down shirts with tall boots for hiking as well as some photographs featuring formal wear with fur shrugs and feathered hats. The group's automobile is seen in several pictures with everyone posing next to it or from inside the car although train stations and horse riding seems to be the most commonly used method of transportation. The places visited by the group feature lush scenic photographs of waterfalls, mountain sides, canyons, geysers, and other flora like cacti, flowers, and palm trees. Photographs of horses, buffalo, and bears are included, which shows the group riding horses throughout the trip and seeing wildlife in their natural habitat. There are also some photographs showing the group on horses with hunting dogs our chasing something during a hunting trip. The trips most likely took over a period of years as the group goes during various seasons, both during warmer months and winter time as snow can be seen covering the ground in several photographs. A small cabin can be seen in some of the winter pictures and several pictures with mountains covered in snow and geysers still erupting below. Some of the summer pictures feature the group either boating in canoes or sitting around lakes. Some of the more interesting photographs feature the group of friends together making faces or in a couple photographs two young women are seen standing inches apart leaning in close to each other with one of women standing on her tip-toes to be eye level with the other woman. An aesthetically pleasing collection of a group of friends traveling together around California in the 1900s.…
