Item description from seller

Oblong quarto measuring 12" x 9". String-tied textured cloth over stiff paper boards. Contains 276 sepia-toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1" x 1" and 5" x 7" with some captions in French. Near fine photo album with near fine photographs. A photo album depicting a wealthy European family beginning around 1900 with some photos going through the 1930s. The album is a large collection of well composed photographs detailing travels and family life. There is an emphasis on nature photography with images showing houses on lakes, expanses of fields, and tree lined avenues. They are also photographed swimming, boating, and playing lawn games such as tennis and croquet. One section of photos from a beach trip shows the family posed in the sand with rows of changing huts behind them, another shows an action shot of a diver. Other photos show friends and family in costumes, including one of a clown, as well as evening wear. Many of the photos show fashionably dressed people posed in their homes for portraits as well as candids from trips and home life. Two larger photos show costumed children posed with beads, feathers, and lace, another photo shows children on a beach under a parasol. Later photos at the end of the album show a garden party in the 1930s. A dense photo album filled with wonderful images of a wealthy family's life in France at the turn of the century.…
