Robert Ackermann’s The Philosophy of Science: An Introduction, published in 1970 as part of the Pegasus Traditions in Philosophy series. A concise introduction to major problems and approaches in the philosophy of science, written for readers without previous training in philosophy or formal logic. Ackermann surveys competing views of scientific method, explanation, methodology, and the relationship between philosophical worldviews and scientific practice. The volume also provides guidance toward the more specialized literature of the field and includes a bibliography emphasizing both philosophical writings and discussions of scientific methodology by practicing scientists. Condition: Good. Original illustrated softcover wrappers show considerable general surface soiling, rubbing, age-toning, and handling wear, particularly to the white portions of the front and rear covers. Small areas of spotting and staining are present, along with a small rubbed/residue spot on the lower portion of the front cover. Edges and corners show shelf wear and light bumping. Spine is toned and lightly rubbed but remains legible and intact. Binding appears sound. Interior pages shown are clean and lightly age-toned, with no markings visible in the photographed portions. Please review photographs carefully for the most accurate representation of condition. An interesting period introduction to the philosophy of science from the early 1970s, addressing questions of scientific explanation, methodology, theory, and the philosophical assumptions underlying scientific practice. Ackermann was then a professor of philosophy at the University of Massachusetts and was also the author of Theories of Knowledge. The volume is part of Pegasus’s Traditions in Philosophy series and will be of interest to students and collectors of philosophy of science, epistemology, scientific methodology, and twentieth-century philosophy. Carefully packed for shipment. Ships via USPS Media Mail unless otherwise requested. Returns accepted in accordance with AbeBooks policies. SCI 2b.…
