The Philosophical Journey: An Interactive Approach, is a text/reader which enhances comprehension of philosophical study by allowing the reader to ponder, explore and actively participate in the learning process. Philosophy becomes a personal journey to students through Bill Lawhead's innovative and unique pedagogy which delivers philosophical concepts through more digestible chunks.

A new final chapter encourages the reader to apply and personalize the issues and options discussed throughout the book
Refinements and reorganization throughout make the presentation of ideas more intuitive and clear without significantly altering the main outline and innovative approach of the text
The interactive teaching format includes these modules:

Scouting the Territory: motivating chapter-opening accounts that raise philosophical problems

Charting the Terrain: a more precise, formal presentation of the question or topic and a clarification of its significance

Choosing a Path: opposing alternatives described to help students clarify their own pre-philosophical views and compare different positions

What Do I Think?: questionnaires allow students to identify their current ideas on the issue at hand, with feedback on their positions

Leading Questions: brief sections beginning with questions biased in favor of the position to be explored

Looking through X's Lens: students are asked to apply the philosopher's insight to a novel situation to enhance their understanding of the position
Brief, well-edited primary source materials are integrated into the framework of the text
Other pedagogical tools include:

Philosophy in the Marketplace: a question, survey, or scenario to engage students outside of class with friends and provide rich material for class discussion

Thought Experiments: enable students to make discoveries on their own

Stop and Think Boxes: brief pause to reflect on a question and choose between several alternatives
Review material includes a marginal glossary and bulleted checklists of key terms, points, concepts, and philosophers' names
A new appendix presents a detailed discussion of argument forms
