Contemporary gilt-ruled calf, gilt-stamped lettering in black leather spine label (5 raised bands); 8vo (194x120mm); pp. iv, [3]-362, [6], plus folding plates numbered I-XXVI, two folding tables. Spine and edges of boards a bit scuffed; boards a little rubbed, with a few small spots of soiling. Some marginal browning; 3 plates hastily re-folded, with some wrinkling along the fore-edge. Armorial bookplate of Richardson of Pitfour Bart. Overall a tight, clean copy, with attractive plates, including a map of the world, in which California appears as an island.
