Add to basketThe revised 2nd edition dated 1908 in a run of 2000 copies (the first edition was published in 5000 copies in 1899). Original red cloth illustrated in black 14x19cm. vi, (2), 108pp including 39 b/w illustrations (mainly photos) including frontispiece. Covers very good, gently bumped and marked. Interiors near fine. Mary Rebecca Stewart Bird (1859-1914) was the first medical missionary at the Church Missionary Society's mission in Persia during 1891-1914. She spent the first months learning Persian and Arabic, building relations with Persian women. This was initially with limited success, but she became increasingly popular as local women, forbidden from or unwilling to see foreign male doctors, sought her out. Although the mission was evangelical, her account covers manners and customs, and the photos show intimate domestic scenes, street scenes, types, settlements and landscapes.

Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
SHIPPING: Domestic and international shipping is tracked and insured with UPS. This has unfortunately meant an increase in domestic rates especially, and in most cases I am absorbing some of the increase. (I have moved away from Royal Mail owing to a series of problems).
DELIVERY DEADLINES: If you have a hard deadline for receipt that is before the processing time stated on Abe, eg, if you need it to arrive urgently before you travel or before a particular event, please contact me at the time of order to advise, so options can be discussed and steps taken to ensure it gets there in time.
RETURNS: Please return any items for refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date, and contact me first with the reason for the return to establish whether postal costs will be included in the refund. If the item is not as described, I will cover the original and return post.
