Add to basketNeuware - How do democracies collapse, and how do modern dictators transform society into a permanent war machine First published during the height of World War II, Permanent Revolution: The Total State in a World at War by renowned scholar Professor Sigmund Neumann remains one of the most foundational and prophetic works on the rise of Authoritarianism, Fascism, and Totalitarianism. This newly updated and expanded edition-featuring accessible modern formatting, concise bulleted analysis, and expert commentary by coauthor Nathaniel Fridman-brings Neumann's timeless political masterpiece to a new generation of readers.Drawing from the firsthand collapse of the Weimar Republic and the rise of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin, Neumann exposes the internal mechanics of the 'Total State.' He reveals how autocratic regimes dismantle democratic institutions, hijack mass movements, and rely on non-stop crisis, propaganda, and state-sanctioned fear to consolidate power.Inside this groundbreaking study on totalitarian power, you will discover: - The Architecture of the Total State: How Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Stalinist Russia replaced traditional governance with perpetual political conflict.- The Mechanics of Dictatorship: The psychological manipulation, mass propaganda, and institutional subversion used to control public life.- The Fall of Weimar Europe: A critical examination of how democratic systems weaken from within before totalitarian regimes take hold.- War, Revolution, and Power: How autocrats exploit international crisis and social upheaval to normalize permanent authoritarian control.- Modern Political Commentary: Featuring the original 1942 introduction alongside a 2025 introduction and epilogue by Nathaniel Fridman, connecting 20th-century history to today's political tensions.Part rigorous political science, part sweeping historical analysis, and part urgent warning for the future, Permanent Revolution provides an essential blueprint for understanding how freedom is lost-and what is required to defend it.Essential reading for historians, political science students, educators, researchers, and readers of serious non-fiction, WWII history, and modern political philosophy.
