Pope during his lifetime, was acclaimed as one of the great English poets, but soon after his death changing taste began to dismiss him as merely an accomplished versifier content to discuss trivialities or to abuse his contemporaries. These critical attacks were inspired by a general dislike of his character rather than by an unbiased considertaion of his work. But modern scholars have done much to re-establish him among the great poets. The present selection is designed to show in a small compass every aspect of his genius.this excellent book showcases some of the finest english poetry from the master of the heroic couplet!
