White illustrated wraps, [xxix] 319 pp, 158 illustrations. From the preface--Popular illustration is the product of the nineteenth century. It has never been treated seriously, and to-day it covers such a wide field and is so many-sided that it is impossible to discuss more than one of its phases at a time. I have endeavored to show what a high standard the best illustration reaches, and to give, for purposes of study, the most notable examples from all over the world. VG, cover yellowed with age, minor folded edges on some cover corners.
