A practical, people-first guide for anyone ready to stop working just for a paycheck."- Garry Ridge, Chairman Emeritus, WD-40 Company, USA Today Bestselling Author of Any Dumb Ass Can Do ItFor many professionals, work looks successful on the outside-steady income, respected title, a polished resume-yet feels empty on the inside. The quiet dread of Monday mornings, the sense of misalignment, and the feeling that something essential is missing are more common than we admit.More Than a Paycheck is a compassionate and practical guide for people who believe work should carry meaning, dignity, and purpose. It speaks to professionals who are burned out, stuck, or at a crossroads-whether they are rethinking a long-held career path, navigating a layoff, or questioning traditional definitions of success.Drawing from decades of coaching experience, Ozlem Brooke Erol helps readers reconnect with what truly matters. Through reflection, real-life stories, and grounded exercises, readers learn to identify their strengths, clarify their values, and recognize what genuinely energizes them at work.Rather than promoting drastic or reckless change, this book offers thoughtful pathways forward-showing how purpose can be expressed by enhancing one's current role, transitioning careers with intention, or creating something new. It emphasizes alignment over hustle and sustainability over sacrifice. At its core, More Than a Paycheck challenges the idea that work is something to endure until retirement. It invites readers to design a working life that supports well-being, fulfillment, and contribution-while honoring real-world responsibilities. This book is for anyone who knows, deep down, that work can be more human-and that a fulfilling career is not a luxury, but a possibility worth pursuing. “For anyone looking to truly embrace a sense of purpose in their work, this book is for you.” Ranjay Gulati, Professor at Harvard Business School Best-Selling Author
You wake up Sunday night with that familiar weight in your chest, dreading Monday morning.
You’ve got the job that looks perfect on paper—good salary, solid title, impressive company name on your LinkedIn. But something feels hollow.
You’re not broken. You’re not ungrateful.
You’re just tired of trading your life for a paycheck.
If you’re burned out, stuck in your career, or quietly wondering whether work is supposed to feel like this, you’re not alone. Many professionals reach a point where external success no longer brings job satisfaction, meaning, or fulfillment.
This book is for anyone who knows, deep down, that work should mean something more. It’s for the burned-out professional seeking meaningful work and career alignment. It’s for the recent graduate who watched their parents suffer through decades of meaningless work and refuses to repeat that pattern. It’s for the person who was laid off and sees this moment as a chance to finally do things differently and begin a career transition with intention.
You’ll discover how to identify your unique strengths; the gifts that come so naturally you don’t even realize they’re valuable. You’ll learn to pinpoint your core values and stop compromising them for a job that drains your energy. You’ll uncover what truly energizes you instead of what you think should excite you.
Here’s what you’ll gain:
This isn’t about quitting your job tomorrow or making reckless decisions. It’s about taking back control of your career—one intentional step at a time.
You’ll learn why meaningful work makes you healthier, happier, and even helps you live longer. You’ll see real stories of people who made the shift from traditional success to actual fulfillment. You’ll understand how to bring purpose to your current role or confidently change careers when the time is right.
You’ll also discover:
This book speaks to anyone caught between financial necessity and soul-crushing work. It offers a grounded, compassionate approach to building a career that energizes you instead of depleting you. one that honors both your humanity and your responsibilities.
You deserve work that feels like you.
Not someday. Not after another decade of pushing through.
Now.
The only approval you need is your own.
This book will help you trust that it’s enough.
