"Rate-Payers View Them With Much Delight" [Broadside]. [Poor Laws]. [Great Britain]. The Pauper's Christmas Day. [England: S.n., 1872?]. 10" x 8" broadside, text in two columns below headline, woodcut arms of the Prince of Wales above headline, column separated by rule, text enclosed by woodcut typographical border. Moderate toning, a few tiny spots, horizontal fold line through center, a few fold lines and creases to corners. $350. * This poem, by "Fearnought," describes a pleasant Christmas day in a Church-run poorhouse. The paupers are grateful, pious and humble and the rate-payers (taxpayers) who support them are warmed by the sight: "Rate-payers view them with much delight, they say it is a most beautiful sight, To see the poor, humble and meek, Christ and his kingdom do seek."
