Somewhere Past Sensible
An Adventure Novella of Friendship, Miscalculation, and Going Much Too Far
Eli Mercer has spent eleven years avoiding Jonah Vale—and the memory of the fire that destroyed their friendship.
Then Jonah arrives with a map drawn by Eli’s recently deceased father. It marks a dangerous route through Redglass Canyon toward Saint Orison’s Eye, an isolated spring tied to a forgotten mining operation and a secret someone has worked hard to keep buried.
Their plan is simple: enter the canyon, follow the map, find the truth, and return in seven days.
But the wilderness has no respect for plans.
A broken vehicle leaves them miles from the trailhead. Crow’s Ladder tests their nerve. A flash flood turns the canyon into a weapon. At an abandoned ranch, they discover they are not alone—and that someone is following them. As the evidence of environmental wrongdoing grows, so does the pressure to decide what matters more: survival, reputation, loyalty, or the truth.
Eli trusts preparation. Jonah trusts instinct. Neither is prepared for the secrets the canyon forces them to confront.
To escape Redglass, they must cross wildfire, treacherous underground passages, and the wreckage of their shared past. Somewhere beyond caution—and somewhere past sensible—they will have to decide whether forgiveness is possible before the wilderness makes the decision for them
