Beardsley's first published illustration, 'The Jubilee Cricket Analysis,' consisting of eleven visual puns at the expense of English cricket. Pleasing if rather obvious puns, these drawings were published when Beardsley was only fourteen years of age and show only the slightest hint of his later style in their focus on figures either head-on or in silhouette, giving them the characteristic two dimensional appearance of belonging to a frieze or medieval manuscript. .
