Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a fascinating look at the history of precentors within the Scottish church, a unique role that combined leading the singing of psalms with other duties. The author explores the development of the precentor's role, from its origins in the early Scottish church to its decline in the late 19th century as organs became more prevalent in churches. Through the lives and work of several noted precentors, including R.A. Smith, John Templeton, and David Kennedy, the book sheds light on the challenges and contributions of these individuals to the musical life of the Scottish church. The changing role of precentors is set against the backdrop of Scotland's wider musical and social history, making this book an insightful and engaging read for those interested in Scottish music, church history, and the role of music in worship. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781334100024_0
