Synopsis:

This is another CeLCAR language textbook, accompanied by an interactive CD-ROM containing audio materials, videos, and self-correcting exercises and games. Pashto, desginated a critical language by the U.S. Department of Defense, is one of two official languages of Afghanistan and is also spoken by about 15% of the population of Pakistan. Smaller Pashto communities are found in northeastern Iran, Tajikistan, and a few areas of India. It uses a modified Arabic alphabet, with additional letters for Pashto-specific sounds, and is written from right to left. This book covers the language needed for everyday functions and includes an introduction to the Pashto alphabet.

About the Author: Rahmon Inomkhojayev is a professor at the Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies, where he teaches Pashto and Afghan studies. He is from Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
