About this Item
Complete in three volumes in folio, 10 1/4 X 15 1/4. This was the major law code of 13th century Spain and its seven divisions afford an unrivaled insight into the history of medieval Spain. Original parchment bindingis intact and in good condition with the exception noted below. The printing is superb, the paper is of fine quality, and each volume is complete. Sadly, all of them have been the subject of varying degrees of damage by booklice, although none have been ruined by it. Vol.I has bookworm activity affecting about 200 pages of the 646, with the only large affected areas being in the white space at the inner margin. There are also small areas of water staining on the final 200 pages, none affecting the text. The parchment cover is worn through at the bottom front corner and there is a short tear from the top front edge. The text block is starting to part from the cover, but is still clinging tight. Vol. II has much lighter varmit activity, but there are tracks or small holes present on about 300 of the 911 pages. Parchment cover has only minor edgewear and there are just a few areas of light stain. The textblock here, too, is beginning to part. Vol. III, of 534 pages, has light to moderate insect activity, but is otherwise In very good condition, with only light edgwear. Bookworms are noxious creatures and their past action has certinly affected the value of these books. But there are none remaining and their past action has not really made reading the text difficult. This is the only complete set of the three volume version that I have been able to find, and on the whole they make a handsome set. Text is in Spanish. Language: eng. Seller Inventory # 10141
