Gould common name : Six-Plumed Bird of Paradise Gould binomial name : Parotia Sexpennis Modern common name : Western Parotia Modern binomial name: Parotia Sefilata Described : Pennant 1781 The Western Parotia is found only in the mountain forests of Vogelkop and the Wandammen Peninsula of Western New Guinea. It has one of the most spectacular courtship displays of the Birds of Paradise. During courtship, the male performs a ballerina-like dance with its elongated black plumes spread around skirt-like, right below the iridescence breast shield. During the spectacular dance, he shakes his head and neck rapidly to show the brilliance of his inverted silver triangle-shaped head adornment to attending females. Sold with the original letterpress description as issued. Image Size: 440mm x 320mm (17.3" x 12.6"). Condition: Repaired tear left hand side just showing from mount edge.
