The smell of Tayto cheese and onion crisps is on his breath, and the aroma of fresh fish suppers and burning double-decker busses is in the air. It is the era of platform shoes and parallel trousers, and Paperboy is taking guitar lessons with Mr Rowing so he can play along to the Bay City Rollers.
Belfast in the seventies is like the newspapers he delivers: everything is black and white, albeit Orange and Green. There are bombings and killings on the evening news, but Paperboy is more interested in Doctor Who and Top of the Pops, bonfires and outer space, and of course, Sharon Burgess.
It is a time of hate and conflict, but Paperboy's only battles are with acne, dentistry and the wee hoods out to rob his paper money. The streets are ruled by the IRA and the UDA, but Paperboy is under the spell of a less threatening acronym: ABBA.
There are secrets at school and dangers on the streets, but Paperboy is happy, so he is. He is a good paperboy. He delivers.
Tony has spent the past 25 years working to build peace and reconciliation at home and abroad, working with hundreds of youth and community groups to break down barriers of mistrust, hatred and division. In the 1980s he lived and worked on the peace line in North Belfast. In the 1990's he developed and implemented local and international youth programmes on conflict resolution. He established Macaulay Associates in 2001 as a socially responsible consultancy in community development and community relations and today he supports and mentors many organisations and communities who are committed to creating positive social change.
In 2008, following his experience of living on and working on the peace lines he developed a discussion paper proposing a process for the removal of the `peace walls' in Northern Ireland.
Tony is also a writer and broadcaster. In the 1990s he was a presenter on Downtown Radio and since 2000 he has been a regular contributor to BBC Radio Ulster.
He married Lesley in 1986 and they have two children, Beth and Hope. Tony and Lesley are strong supporters of integrated education in Northern Ireland. Tony has been involved with other parent volunteers in setting up two integrated schools and his children are currently students at their local integrated college on the North Coast.
Tony is passionate about building a brighter future for Northern Ireland where children of all faiths and backgrounds can live together, learn together and play together.
