Print on Demand. This book takes an in-depth look at the history of The Palmyra Academy, one of several academies which furnished educational facilities in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania, before the establishment of high schools. The Palmyra Academy was unique in that it was the private affair of its founder and principal, Peter B. Witmer. Through the experiences of students and teachers at the academy, the book sheds light on the challenges and rewards of education in 19th century rural Pennsylvania, capturing the spirit of a bygone era in American education. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…
