About this Item
Reprint of the first edition with letter A and L-12.66 [MH] on copyright page. Solid exlib hardcover in taupe colored cloth boards with reddish- brown illustration of Indian and horse on cover, same color titles on backstrip. No call tags or exlib marks on spine of book (but there is a capital letter J on the backstrip of the dj, that matches the J written in pencil above the Price Hill school stamp on copyright page. Board tips and spine ends are bumped with shelf wear on all 6 surfaces (4 tips, 2 spine ends). Internally the only thing visible pertaining to its former library life is the card pocket on the rear end paper, one tiny school stamp "Price Hill" above the 1936 Charles Scribner's Sons name and copyright date, and a small letter J above this Price Hill school stamp. Pages are Gulden's mustard color with a 1/2" cream border at head and foot of each page and a 5//8th border on page sides. Inner hinges have cracked but page block is holding fine. Vintage bookstore sticker at foot of frt pastedn, 96 pp text shows occasional light finger soil in aforementioned margins. Endpapers have tape marks and soil, dj flaps not glued to pastedowns but there are tape marks and remnants along with finger soil there. Unclipped (3.95) dust jacket is a professional reproduction. It does have some rubbing and closed tears with with 1/2" chips at spine ends and a tiny chip at center of backstrip but title remains more than legible. Displays well in new mylar sleeve. Good personal copy An action-packed story of War Paint, a wild pony that roamed the Western prairies in early days. The story takes him from his birth to the time when he is owned by an Indian brave. Paul Brown has told the story in pictures and brief text, and every picture is spirited and full of action. You'll see the colt as he first follows his mother on unsteady legs, in his first encounter with a wolf, in later encounters with fire and flood - and finally in the Indian camp.
