From the Back Cover
A landscape photographer, Henry Dallal travels to remote areas of the world in pursuit of his twin passions: mountaineering and photography. Moving to London from Colorado in 1994, Henry was captivated by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and has been photographing their daily life for the past six years.
Following Behind the Scenes at Horse Guards , an exhibition at Kensington Palace in 1999, Henry continued to photograph this vestige of British excellence and tradition, creating a multi-media experience depicting a year in the life of the Household Cavalry. This show was presented at the Royal Geographical Society in 2002, and as a son et lumiere projected on the walls of Windsor Castle in 2003 and forms the basis of this book. Included also are a few photographs of other Household Troops parading alongside the Household Cavalry.
More of Henry s work will be featured in a forthcoming book entitled Horse Gunners: A Photographic Record of the King s Troop Royal Horse Artillery.
I came to know Henry Dallal through my role as producer of the BBC coverage
of events such as Trooping the Colour and discovered he is a remarkable
photographer. He has captured a series of uniquely expressive images of some
of the central elements of British State Pageantry. That such an intimate
record has been gathered is due to a close relationship with and
understanding of, those involved, both human and horse.
