xii, 407 pages. Hardcover: H 24.25cm x L 16cm. No dust jacket. Dark green cloth rubbed with some staining and mottling; boards' top fore-edge corners slightly bumped; spine's gilt stamping remains fairly bright. Text block edges toned/foxed with some soiling and small stains with latter fractionally affecting a few leaves at margins. Mild toning/foxing to endpapers; interior pages mostly remain clean. Binding slightly stressed between pages 18-19 but otherwise is firm. Contents: "Introductory Note" by Dunbar Rowland; "Introductory Note to Peter Chester;" "Peter Chester, Third Governor of the Province of West Florida under British Dominion, 1770-1781" by Mrs. Dunbar Rowland [Eron Rowland] (pages 1-183); "A History of Mississippi College" by Dr. W.H. Weathersby (pages 184-220), "Editor's Preface to 'My Journal'" by Ruth Polk; "Biographical Note of William Pitt Chambers;" "Preface to 'My Journal'" by W.P. Chambers (page 223); "Introduction to 'My Journal'" (pages 225-226); "My Journal: The Story of a Soldier's Life Told by Himself" by William Pitt Chambers; and Index. Born in Covington County, Mississippi in 1839, William P. Chambers started his Civil War service in Company F, 27th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry Volunteers and eventually in the Forty-Sixth Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, with post-war life in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he died in 1916. His autobiographical journal runs inclusive from page 227-380 with a roster of officers on page 381, muster-roll on pages 382-385, and a list of deaths on page 386. Seller Inventory # PXZP-19712
