In The PTSD Workbook for Teens, a trauma and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) specialist offers worksheets and exercises to help teens recover from traumatic events and symptoms of PTSD, such as insomnia, flashbacks, hypervigilance, and depression. This workbook is based in evidence based treatments for PTSD, including trauma focused cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). Key Selling Points: ? This is the first workbook for teens with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Page 57 of 83 TIP SHEET TIP SHEET ? Nearly 7 out of 10 children are exposed to a traumatic event, such as having a loved one die violently, being sexually abused, or being diagnosed with a serious illness, by age 16 (Archives of General Psychiatry, 2007). Left untreated, PTSD becomes more ingrained and less responsive to treatment. Failed relationships, career and employment problems, substance abuse, depression, suicide, homicide and other acts of violence can be the end result of untreated PTSD. ? This workbook is written by a licensed psychologist who has over twenty years of experience working with victims of trauma, mostly children and teens. For the first time, this workbook presents her evidence based approach to addressing PTSD and trauma in teens. ? Description: Most children are exposed to a traumatic event by age sixteen, and while some may recover from the shock, many others struggle with the lingering flashbacks, hypervigilance, and insomnia that are associated with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The PTSD Workbook for Teens is the first workbook for teens with PTSD and trauma related difficulties. Incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), this approach helps teens work through their symptoms and make progress in overcoming them. Each worksheet and activity encourages teen readers to reestablish a sense of safety, manage their thoughts and feelings appropriately, remember and mourn their traumatic experience, and reconnect with a positive sense of self.
