EARLY EDITION 1586, FIRST PART ONLY, lacking the following: "Treatise on bees" and "Treatise on grafting and planting of trees". REPAIRED COPY, small 4to, approximately 180 x 120 mm, 7 x 5 inches, 4 woodcuts in the text, 1 full page, 2 woodcut capitals, the "S" on page 1 printed upside down, most of the text is in black letter. Pages: [8], 1-152, errors in pagination, a previous owner has neatly inked in the correct page numbers, rebound in full modern speckled calf, gilt lettered green label, gilt name, gilt rules and date to spine, blind rules to edges of covers, new black endpapers. Title page damaged with loss and the remains laid down on a facsimile of the title, most of the centre of the title page is original down to the date at foot, the following 2 leaves in poor condition, soiled and repaired to top of pages with some loss of text, repairs with archival tape and some text pasted in, both leaves have a small hole, small repairs to the top margins of the following 20 pages with loss to a headpiece but no loss to text, the rest of the text in reasonable condition apart from 4 top corner tips neatly repaired, pale staining to margins, occasional small spot or stain, pale age-browning throughout, 1 small ink correction and 2 tiny ink marginalia, a fair working copy only of an early gardening book. First published as " A most briefe and pleasaunte treatise teachyng how to dresse, sowe and set a garden" published in 1558.
