With a preface by Brigadier General Joseph F. Kuhn, U.S.A. Octavo, reddish-brown cloth covers [xviii] 5-190 pages. Translated at Harvard from the French. Spine titles a bit faded; former owner name on front paste-down endpaper. No dust jacket. "The curve of tactics is ever varying, yet always continuous. Among those forces whose resultant determines its direction, two in particular have greatly increased in recent years, the destructive power of cannon, the resisting capacity of field works. A careful evalution of the importance of these forces in the recent wars in the Transvaal, of Manchuria, and of the Balkans has made it possible to sketch the curve day by day, to note its sinuousities, and to follow its development in a new direction." --from the Introduction by the author. World War I, The Great War, Trench Warfare, Military. 092508A.
